Message I was disgusted by Iftikhar Ahmad’s letter to the Daily Mail. Honour killings may have originated from “Pagan-Hindu-Judeo-Christian” traditions, but it is not those cultures that now kill women for refusing to enter forced marriages, or carry out female mutilation. And saying that Muslim women who live between two cultures find their lives confusing is no doubt due to the fact that one tradition tells them to think for themselves, and the other tells them to do everything by a book! As for Mr Ahmad’s opinion that western education makes men and women stupid, this beggars belief. Just how many Islamic countries have brilliant engineers or scientists? Not many, which why Saudi Arabia, for example, has to employ westerners to do the thinking for them. Mr Ahmad is entitled to his opinions but, like so many aspects of the Muslim religion, he is six centuries behind in mentality and beliefs. Quite frankly, if Mr Ahmad doesn’t like our way of life, then he can leave Europe and take his outdated and misogynistic ideas with him!

Message Salaam

London School of Islamics is an educational Trust. It's aim is to make
British public, institutions and media aware of the needs and demands of the
Muslim community in the field of education and possible solutions.

Britain is becoming a more racist society. Media and Government policies play a major part in encouraging racism. prejudices and fears. State schools are homes of institutional racism. After 9/11, 7/7 and Glasgow Bombing, the climate of hatred and erosion of human rights are common. Anti-terrorist legistation is creating further resentment, alienation and criminalisation.

Bilingual Muslim children need state funded Muslim schools with bilingual
Muslim teachers as role models. They need to be well versed in Standard
English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and
research to serve humanity. They need to be well versed in Arabic, Urdu and
other community languages to keep in touch with their cultural roots anbd
enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry.

A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny global village. He/she does not want to
become notoriously monolingual Brit.

Please visit www.londonschoolofislamics.org.uk for more information on
this crucial and complicated issue.

Iftikhar

Message Unfortunately, Mr Ahmad does not appear to understand the problem. This is a secular country, albeit one with a strong Christian faith: this country is not, and I sincerely hope will never be, a country that is Islamic. Unfortunately, the Muslim religion has now reached the same stage that Christianity did at the the time of the Reformation, and a reformation is what Islam needs!

Mr Ahmad refers to keeping in contact with one's cultural routes. However, this does not mean that it should be to the detriment of the country one is living in as appears to be happening.

One further point, if Mr Ahmad thinks that children should have bilingual teachers, could he possibly undertake a little English training himself? His use of apostrophes where none are required is irritating, and his seeming inability to use definite and indefinite articles in his writing is even more annoying. Personally, if I had children, I would prefer them to have a teacher who actually can articulate in the language of the host country!

Message Mr Ahmad says "Britain is becoming a more racist society. Media and Government policies play a major part in encouraging racism. prejudices and fears. State schools are homes of institutional racism. After 9/11, 7/7 and Glasgow Bombing...."

It's hardly surprising that Britain is becoming racist. Firstly, I do not believe that schools encourage racism. Secondly, some Muslims are not helping themselves by wanting to establish Islamic/Sharia rule.

The biggest contributory factor to racism was, however, 9/11 and 7/7. Mr Ahmad, don't forget that it wasn't "Pagan-Hindu-Judeo-Christian" followeres who committed these atrocities, but people of YOUR faith who have been indoctrinated by YOUR imams in YOUR mosques and, I have no doubt, in YOUR schools!
